The Consular & Diplomatic Service University (CDSU) is located in at the Old US Embassy in Osu, Accra, Ghana. It is a historic and accessible location for its diverse student body and faculty.
The diplomatic University is led by its current Vice Chancellor Dr. Emily Milla-Amekor and stands out as the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to diplomatic training and academic collaboration within the Foreign Afairs department of the African Diplomatic Organization (ADO), previously known as the African Union Youth Assembly (AUYA).
CDSU’s journey began in 2015 as the Foreign Service Institute, founded in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, a powerful resolution that was unanimously adopted in under the initiative of HRH Crown Prince of Jordan Hussein. CDSU initial phase saw an affiliation with the United Nations University.
By 2017, the University had evolved into an autonomous nonprofit entity and rebranded from Foreign Service Institute (FSI) to the Consular & Diplomatic Service University (CDSU). It eventually adopted its current title, “Diplomatic University,” under the Independent Treaty endorsed by 54 African nations of AUYA, forming part of AUYA’s permanent signatories.
The initial International Diplomatic Training for Emerging Leaders & Diplomats was held in Accra, Ghana, at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC). This significant event was followed by a second training session at Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration, known then as the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) till August 3, 2023.
In 2015, the first training events of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) were pivotal milestones, drawing the presence of esteemed figures such as Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, as well as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who served as keynote speakers. Additionally, Jeffrey D. Sachs and his wife, Sonia Ehrlich Sachs, made notable visits during other occasions where an notable international UN Youth Summit was held in 2019.
